Whistler

The ski and cycling enthusiasts who own this Whistler getaway asked for design help to turn a plain, three-level condo into a mini alpine resort.

SMC Interior Design worked with the homeowner’s builder to meet their specific needs.

“I have been a contractor for more than 20 years in Whistler, British Columbia and have had the pleasure of working with Susan Collins of SMC Interior Design for one of my top customers,” said John McSkimming of John McSkimming Construction Ltd.

It was important to provide heated storage for ski gear and controlled temperature storage for wine.

The existing fireplaces were redesigned and a new one was added. All of them were constructed using local river rock and timber. The staircase was refurbished with custom wrought iron spindles and distressed pine millwork.

Floor coverings were also replaced with hand scraped hickory and wool carpet. The bathrooms received new configurations and new plumbing and tile. An outdoor hot tub area and separate outdoor BBQ cooking area were designed for year-round use.

“I have worked with several designers over the years and detailing and a good set of plans are sometimes hard to come by. I definitely rate Susan as one of the top designers I have worked with,” McSkimming said.

Some other design features in this home include pine ceiling beams, wine room with leather floor and bar top, hickory hand-scraped floors, outdoor barbeque area with refrigerated drawers, local rock fireplace surrounds and walk-in shower with dual body spray assemblies.
