Timeless design will never go out of style, but even we love a good gadget. Movies like Back to the Future imagined a future for us that largely came true, from wearable technology to video calling. Progress in the technological world has been swift, but these big changes are such a common part of everyday life that many of them have gone unnoticed - one day we picked up our cell phones and suddenly they were scanning our faces to unlock! In the spirit of the new year, new beginnings, and exciting products that bring something fresh to the table, we’ve rounded up a handful of items that have us feeling like we’re truly living in 2021.
A showerhead that sings to you
Yes, we can hardly believe it ourselves. Gone are the days of turning your phone speaker up as loud as it will go and hoping you’ll be able to hear it over the sound of the shower. Perfect for shower sing-alongs and listening to your favourite news show or podcast to start the day, Kohler’s Moxie Showerhead and Wireless Speaker integrates a fully waterproof Bluetooth speaker into some of their most popular shower heads. The cone-shaped speaker is affixed to the inside of the showerhead with strong magnets and is fully removable for charging or use in other rooms in the house. The showerhead is available in a number of flow intensities and finishes, and you can even pop one of these speakers in some of Kohler’s popular rain shower heads. For those still hesitant about the necessity of a speaker in their shower, Kohler has put together a quick aspirational video to show you what you’re missing. If you need us, we’ll be blasting Abba in the bathroom.
A tap that quenches your craving for chilled sparkling water
We can’t quite put our finger on it, but there’s something about a chilled glass of sparkling water that just screams sophistication. Maybe it’s the internal association with warm summer nights ordering a bottle of Pellegrino from a friendly waiter in an Italian bistro, or maybe we’re just thirsty. Either way, Grohe’s Blue Chilled & Sparkling Water Filter Faucet is taking hydration to the next level. While this product isn’t brand new, it’s still one of our favourite recent innovations, having just made its way to canada in Summer 2019. With a 4-step filtration process, it allows you to get perfectly chilled fresh or sparkling water from your tap. Water comes from the faucet chilled to 6 degrees celsius (43 degrees fahrenheit), in your choice of 3 carbonation levels- still, semi-sparkling or sparkling. Overall, this faucet brings more convenience to sparkling water lovers, while also being a more sustainable option than purchasing bottled or canned sparkling water. Grohe has a number of interesting new plumbing options coming available. Keep an eye out for new innovations coming to Canada, and in the meantime, learn more about the Grohe Blue here.
Paint that cleans the air just by being there
We’re always looking for new ways to live healthier, and reducing the toxins in your home is an excellent place to start. Sherwin Williams now makes a paint that does just this! While it may not be as flashy as the high tech water features we’ve mentioned above, the Harmony Interior Acrylic Latex Paint will arguably have the greatest health related impact on you of anything we’ve talked about in this post. The paint works to eliminate ambient odors in your home like pet, cooking and smoke smells, and also contains Formaldehyde Reducing Technology, which helps to promote better overall air quality in your home. Think of it as an air purifier that is literally coating the walls of your home.
Things are changing quickly, and we love to see what kinds of exciting innovations our suppliers come up with year after year! Here’s to a 2021 filled with great inspiration and new design. Did this post ignite a hint of design inspiration? Get in touch with us and let us know how we can help.
